Mount Vernon’s Cedar and Building Material Specialists

As a proud member of the Skagit Valley since 1980, the focus of Sound Cedar Lumber is working with customers to create lasting relationships in business and the community. Though we specialize in Western Red Cedar you’ll find we carry more materials than other lumberyards in Skagit County. Our 8,000 sq ft showroom and 14,000 sq ft warehouse also holds everything from Doug Fir and Japanese Cedar to Pressure Treated Hem-Fir and more! Our convenient location just off of I-5 in Mount Vernon makes it easy to stop by whether you’re coming from Burlington, Bellingham, Everett, Seattle – or just about anywhere in Skagit, Snohomish, Whatcom, Island and King Counties.

Need your lumber or supplies delivered? Our drivers are on the roads 5 days a week delivering building materials up and down I-5. Once a week you’ll catch us on the local ferries making deliveries to San Juan, Orcas, Shaw and Lopez Islands, too. We offer competitive rates and can often get your order on a truck and to your job site within the week. Need just a few boards, but can’t fit them in your vehicle? Ask our sales staff when we’re going to be in your area next and we may be able to add your order to that truck’s delivery route.

We’re here to help you get your projects done, from the first screw to the last coat of stain. We carry multiple brands of fasteners, hardware, stains, railing, and decking. And just because it isn’t in stock, doesn’t mean we can’t get it; we place hundreds of special orders each week for more exotic woods like Alaskan Yellow Cedar, Mahogany, IPE and pine. Find inspiration both on our website and in our showroom with numerous displays you can get up close and personal with including Deckorators composite deck displays, covered patios, Golden Designs and Finlandia saunas, Big Green Eggs, cedar and fiber cement siding, composite fencing and just about anything else you may need for your home.

Adding a cedar fence to your yard can serve many purposes. Some are designed for privacy, like pre-built fence panels. Others are to define property boundaries, such as a split rail fence. More traditional fence styles can also be installed for any other purpose you may need like keeping critters in/out or simply elevating the look of your yard. Different styles of cedar fencing can add to the look of your home and enhance the overall aesthetic. Cost and ease-of-installation can be deciding factors as well.
Sound Cedar is proud to be the top retailer of Deckorators in WA, OR, and ID. Though we can get many lines of composite decking we stock only Deckorators® as we believe it is the best on the market. It offers Surestone™️ Technology mineral-based composite (MBC) decking and wood-plastic composite (WPC) deck boards that boast top of the line qualities. Featuring unique finishes, the industry’s best strength-to-weight ratio, and an extraordinary warranty, it’s not hard to see why we choose this company.

Purchasing the right type of lumber can have a huge impact on the overall structural integrity, design and outcome of your project. Different types of wood are meant for different applications and not all wood is the same. Whether you’re looking for Western Red Cedar, Douglas Fir, Pine, Japanese Cedar, Alaskan Yellow Cedar, Pressure Treated Hem-Fir or something else – we can help!
Over the years, more and more customers have discovered the benefits of using composite materials for their decking projects. It was only a matter of time before we began to see composite and vinyl fencing products hit the market as well. At Sound Cedar Lumber, we are proud to partner with Greenwood Fence out of Addison, Illinois to offer an extensive selection of high quality and increasingly desirable composite and vinyl fences and gates.

Family owned & operated, Mukilteo Cedar & More has been in business since 1989. Their planters, trellises, chairs, tables, outdoor decor and more are made with Western Red Cedar. Each piece is a unique, high quality, handcrafted piece of artwork that built to increase the beauty and function of your outdoor space.
There are many options when it comes to creating the perfect railing for your project – whether you’re looking for aluminum, composite, cable, glass, indoor or outdoor, we’ve got it all and more!
There are many types of siding to consider when remodeling your existing home or building a new one. Two of our most popular siding options at Sound Cedar are Allura Fiber Cement Siding, and Cedar siding. While both result in a gorgeous home, one may work better than the other depending on where you live.
The Big Green Egg is a ceramic oven crafted to use natural charcoal and live fire, allowing you to cook just about anything. Its unique design locks in moisture through closed-lid cooking, enhancing the flavor of whatever you prepare.
